Tamarind Rice 2

Ingredients

  • Tamarind 1 handful (soaked and pulp removed)
  • Turmeric powder ยผ tsp
  • Jeera powder 1 tsp
  • Dry chillies 4-5
  • Green chillies 2-3
  • Groundnut 1 Tbs
  • Channa dhal ยฝ Tbs
  • Mustar d seeds ยฝ tsp
  • Curry leaves 2 stalks
  • Hing (asafetida) 1 pinch
  • Oil 3 Tbs
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil the tamarind with turmeric and jeera powder to a thick pulp and remove from fire.ย 
  2. Heat oil in a kadai.ย  Add the groundnut and channa dhal and let it fry till golden brown. ย 
  3. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter. ย 
  4. Add the curry leaves, green chillies and dry chillies and fry for some time. ย 
  5. Finally add the hing, mix well and remove from fire. ย 
  6. Add this seasoning to the tamarind pulp and mix well. Allow it to cool down a bit. Then add to the rice and mix well.

Notes

Note the amount of salt added to the cooked rice and then add accordingly to the tamarind pulp
