Tamarind Rice 2
Ingredients
- Tamarind 1 handful (soaked and pulp removed)
- Turmeric powder ยผ tsp
- Jeera powder 1 tsp
- Dry chillies 4-5
- Green chillies 2-3
- Groundnut 1 Tbs
- Channa dhal ยฝ Tbs
- Mustar d seeds ยฝ tsp
- Curry leaves 2 stalks
- Hing (asafetida) 1 pinch
- Oil 3 Tbs
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Boil the tamarind with turmeric and jeera powder to a thick pulp and remove from fire.ย
- Heat oil in a kadai.ย Add the groundnut and channa dhal and let it fry till golden brown. ย
- Add mustard seeds and let it splutter. ย
- Add the curry leaves, green chillies and dry chillies and fry for some time. ย
- Finally add the hing, mix well and remove from fire. ย
- Add this seasoning to the tamarind pulp and mix well. Allow it to cool down a bit. Then add to the rice and mix well.
Notes
Note the amount of salt added to the cooked rice and then add accordingly to the tamarind pulp
