Bone Pepper Water

Ingredients

  • Bones 250 g (few pieces of meat can be added too)
  • Spices Cloves-3 or 4, Cinnamon-2 pieces of 1 inch each & cardamom-2 or 3
  • Onion 1 big (chopped)
  • Green chillies 2 or 3 (cut into inch pieces)
  • Pudina (mint) leaves 2 Tbsp or fist full
  • Tomatoes 2 big (chopped)
  • Fresh Oregano (omam) leaves 6-8 (whole), if not available 2 tsp of omam seeds can be used
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Chillie powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ยฝ tsp
  • Coconut powder 3 Tbsp (ground finely)
  • Dhania (coriander powder) 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tsp
  • Water 2-3 cups
  • Oil 2 Tbsp
  • Salt 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash the bones & meat thoroughly and keep it aside to drain
  2. In a pressure cooker add the oil and let it get warm
  3. To this add the chopped onions and fry until pink
  4. Add the ginger garlic paste, spices and green chillies. Fry it for a minute.
  5. Add the powdered coconut and fry briefly.
  6. Now add the dhania, chillie and turmeric powders. Mix everything together.
  7. Now add the chopped tomatoes and pudina leaves. Fry the ingredients until the tomatoes have cooked well. Add the salt.
  8. Empty the bones & meat into the cooker and briefly fry it in the mixture. At this stage add the oregano.
  9. Add the water and cover the cooker with the lid.
  10. Cook the bones for 8-10 whistles. Switch off the heat and let the steam settle down.
  11. Open the lid and add the lemon juice.
  12. Finally, boil the curry for 2 minutes and switch off the stove.
  13. Serve hot with cooked rice

Notes

The fresh oregano (omam) leaves is what gives this curry a great flavor. The omam seeds can also be used, but it gives a milder flavor.
