Pepper Water with Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes 3-4
  • Tamarind 1 small lump
  • Coriander 4-5 stalks
  • Curry leaves 3-4 stalks
  • Ginger garlic paste ยฝ tsp
  • Chillie powder ยฝ tsp
  • Turmeric powder ยฝ tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp

For the seasoning

  • Garlic 4-5 cloves
  • Curry leaves 1 sprig
  • Mustard seeds ยฝ tsp
  • Cumin seeds ยฝ tsp
  • Oil 1 Tbsp

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to the tomatoes (that are squashed) in a cooker.
  2. Add 2-3 cups of water and let it cook for 3-4 whistles.
  3. Switch off the gas, open the lid after 5 minutes and let it cool, then mix well with a masher or by hand.
  4. For the seasoning, add oil in a small kadai and put in the garlic pods once the oil becomes hot. When the garlic turns light brown, add the other ingredients for seasoning. Let it fry for a minute and switch off the gas. Add this seasoning to the pepper water.
  5. Finally, put the pepper water to boil for 4-5 minutes.
  6. Serve when hot.

Notes

Pepper water is a good accompaniment for dry vegetable fries, fish fry, pan chops, liver fry and other dry fries.
