  • Maida โ€“ 1 kg
  • Butter/oil โ€“ 1/3 cup (at room temperature to be added to the flour)
  • Salt โ€“ ยฝ tsp
  • Oil for deep frying

For filling

  • Raisins โ€“ 100 g
  • Cashew nuts โ€“ 100 g
  • Rava โ€“ 100 g
  • Tutti-frutti โ€“ 100 g
  • Coconut (dry) โ€“ 2 halves (grated)
  • Kush-kush (poppy seeds) โ€“ 50 g
  • Vanilla essence โ€“ 2 tsp or Cardamom powder โ€“ 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour with salt and mix in the butter/oil. Knead it into pliable dough.
  2. Keep aside covered with a cloth till the filling is ready.
  3. Dice the cashew nuts and mix all the other ingredients for the filling thoroughly and keep aside.
  4. Roll a big size chapatti from a medium size ball of dough.
  5. With the help of a round lid, cut out as many circles from the chapatti.
  6. Slightly wet the sides of the circles with a little water (in order to stick and not open out in the oil while frying).
  7. In the middle of this circle add 1 Tbs of the filling.
  8. Form this into a puff by folding into half and allowing the sides to meet by pressing gently. Make as many puffs in this way and keep aside.
  9. Now, heat oil in a heavy bottom vessel and deep fry the puffs to a golden brown.
  10. Place on a paper or open container to cool before storing.
