Kichiddi

1. Wash rice and dhal together and keep aside to soak for ยฝ hour.

2. Heat the ghee and oil in the cooker

3. Add the spices then add the onions, let it fry till golden brown.

4. Add ginger garlic paste. Let it fry for 1 minute.

5. Then add double the quantity of water [as per measure: 1ยผ cup rice + dhal = 2ยฝ cups water] and bring it to a boil.

6. Lower the heat.

7. Drain out the water from the soaking rice & dhal, and add it to the boiling water.

8. Let it cook for 3-4 whistles in the pressure cooker, then switch off the gas.

9. Do not let off the steam from the cooker immediately.

Ingredients

  • Rice 1 cup
  • Red dhal ยผ cup
  • Onion 1 small (sliced)
  • Ginger garli c paste 2 tsp
  • Cardamom 2
  • Cloves 3-4
  • Cinnamon 1 piece
  • Ghee 1 tbsp
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Water 2 cups (double the quantity of rice)
  • Salt to taste

Notes

Thilli chutney, Onion Chutney and Red Chillie Chutney go well with Kichiddi. Egg sambal also tastes good.
