Crab Curry

Ingredients

  • Crabs 1 kg (cleaned and washed thoroughly)
  • Onions 3-4 (chopped)
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tsp
  • Fresh coconut ยฝ cup (ground to a paste)
  • Green chillies 4-5 (or more for spiciness)
  • Curry leaves 15-20 leaves
  • Tomatoes 2 medium (chopped)
  • Chillie powder ยฝ tsp
  • Turmeric powder ยฝ tsp
  • Dhania powder 2 tsp
  • Salt 1-1.5 tsp
  • Oil 3-4 Tbsp
  • Water 1-1.5 litres

Instructions

  1. After washing the crabs thoroughly, keep it aside to drain
  2. In a big vessel, add the oil and let it get hot. To this add the onions and fry it until it turns pink.
  3. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for some time until the raw smell goes away.
  4. Now add the ground coconut paste and mix thoroughly. Fry this mixture for 2 minutes on medium flame.
  5. Add the curry leaves, green chillies, turmeric, Dhania and chillie powder. Mix well.
  6. Now add the chopped tomatoes and salt and allow it to fry until it turns pulpy.
  7. Finally add the crabs and gently mix everything until the crabs are well coated. Fry for 1 minute.
  8. Add the water to the vessel and mix everything. Let the crabs cook for 15-20 minutes.

Notes

This curry should have enough water to cover the crabs even after cooking.ย  So if needed, more water should be added while cooking.
