Onion Curry With Bombay Duck

Ingredients

  • Bombay ducks 8-10 pieces (soaked in warm water)
  • Onions 4 (cut into thin slices)
  • Curry leaves 2 stalks
  • Green chillies 2 nos (cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • Ginger-Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Chillie powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder ยฝ tsp
  • Tomatoes 2 nos.
  • Tamarind Tennis ball size (washed and soaked)
  • Salt To taste
  • Oil 3 Tbs

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a kadai. Once the oil is hot, add the Bombay ducks and fry till crispy.
  2. Fry the Bombay ducks on a low heat to turn crispy. Remove from the oil and keep it aside.
  3. Now add the onions and fry for 1 minute.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and let it fry for some time.
  5. Then add the curry leaves and green chillies.
  6. After that add the chillie and Turmeric powder powder.
  7. Add the cut tomatoes to the onions to fry till tender.
  8. Lastly squeeze the tamarind and add the pulp to the curry. Add salt lastly.
  9. Let the curry simmer on the gas for 5-10 minutes till the gravy thickens.
  10. Now add the Bombay ducks and mix well.
  11. Switch off the stove and let it rest.

Notes

Prepping Bombay duck:
Bombay ducks (8-10 pieces soaked in warm water) (Wash thoroughly 3-4 times.ย  If possible try to remove the bone inside the Bombay duck by slicing it in two.ย  The bone comes off easily if the Bombay duck is soaked well.ย  If not possible continue making the curry as mentioned).

This curry tastes best the next day.ย  Best accompaniment for this curry is pulkas.ย  It can also be had with rice.
